I noticed a couple of Oil possibilities at Costco, for engine lubrication, rather than the Frybrid fuel type!

Mobil 1 New Life 0w40 - about 30 a gallon (might be 30 + VAT. Need to double check) vs 50 at Halfords. Think this is too thin for my old engine types, but might be good for some people.

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_165581_productId_241643_langId_-1?cm_mmc=GooglePPC-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-Car%20Maintenance%2FEngine%20Oils%20%26%20Car%20Fluids%2FCar%20Engine%20Oil-_-Mobil%201%20New%20Life%200W%2F40%20Oil%205L&source=ppc&adtype=pla&_$ja&_$$ja=tsid:37143

Chevron Supreme 10w40 Semi Synth - 36.99 + VAT for 20 litres. I was thinking this might be OK for oil changes on 'cooking' engines. Here's the spec sheet on it - includes VW 505.00, so at a glance it seems to be up to scratch. I'm sure someone knows more about this than I do....

Noticed the big 20L oil in Costco the other day to. Seems good value tbh, but the only problem is both of my cars take different oil!

They have some new low 3 ton jacks in atm to. I nearly bought one! :)

Why do they take different oil when they have similar engines?? 20vT if I'm not mistaken ;) Early and late type?

I picked up an ally jack last night for someone on this forum, and a rather groovy jump start / compressor pack for my mum's Xmas - she's a practical gal and lives away up in the highlands! Her other present request was a nice new tarpaulin lol

You might well be right - I wasn't looking for that grade.

10w-40 semi synth would be fine for regular Mk1/2/3 oil changes!!

Do they have anything 0w-30 to BMW LL04?

Don't think I've seen anything in that type. Will have a look next time I'm in.

I bought a 20L drum of the 10w40 semi synth, for oil changes in 'normal' engines. It'll do for non track petrol cars and the daily Audi Diesel. Works out at about 10 a gallon or slightly less.

Is there a particular reason you use 5w30? i thought the original spec oil was 10w40 and 5w40.

i wonder if it makes any difference at all lol

    Your probably right Matt ;)

Ive been using the Carlube stuff from GSF. 5 litres for 25 (every 6 month oil change). Ain't too bad really :)

    Bump

Costco (bristol) are doing 4l bottles of magnatec at 20% off - that works around 23+vat each.

What makes it interesting is they're doing 2 for 1 at that price for the 10w40 semi synth.

If you use Castrol oil TSC will come round and haunt you [:D]

I changed the oil in the Audi t'other week using the Chevron stuff from the 20L drum. It hasn't blown up yet [:D] Less than 10 quid for the oil needed to do the change.
