crank seal

    ive got oil leak ,looks like it coming from crank seal area (pulley end)
    ive never replaced one before so would like some idea on whats involved , i guess remove covers , pulley . its more on how the seal is removed .

    Screw two self tappers in 180 deg's apart from each other, then pull it out evenly. 1.5" 8's would be good, look at the new seal depth to see how far to wind them In. Get a new crank bolt from vw, for around a 5, and a new pulley if your keyway is at all damaged. New pulley is roughly 20 from vw. Clean out crank hole with brake/carb cleaner, and use bearing lock on the mating faces, loctite on the threads. Give it loads of torque, as I've had a few cranks fail now.
