Don't worry Phil. I have a legitimate use for it! IMG_2814.JPG

We have a few hundred trees and the machete is the perfect tool for removing small branches. We turn dead trees, and useless limbs, into firewood.

    RE: Bug-Out
Some years ago I was on the 'Island' with TSC and friends (search on here for TSC and/or the island) some of whom were into Bug-Out preparation. First I had heard of it! They brought their Bug-Out kits with them as the 'Island' is around 8 acres of woodland/forest and they were spending a few days out there. TSC, his brother and I stayed in the Lodge.
Take a look on the internet as it is big in the USA. There are lots of products sold which are, supposedly, specifically for Bug-Out.
    So:
I sometimes look at Bug-Out stuff and recon 99% is unsuitable.
I have had the machete for around 25 years as of now, and it is what I would take instead of a small axe and large knife. It can be used for chopping, cutting, digging, etc.
    Now:
Weight is critical when backpacking so I decided to reduce the weight whilst retaining the structural strength. At the same time the centre of mass is nearer to the end.
Thus: lighter (more radial velocity) + longer lever to mass (higher linear velocity at mass) = more energy at the sweet spot. (1/2 x m x v squared)
The lattice cut-outs also mean that less shock is transferred to the handle.
I have a TITAN titanium hammer which is based on the same philosophy.

It must be a knife as I sharpen it on a 'knife-sharpener'!
