I have been working on this car since I bought on 06/06/06, always thought that was a good day to buy a car. Spent over 1k on replacing parts and making her shine again, I have really got to love and enjoy owning it. Last night a drunk driver lost control outside my house and crashed into the back of it, it was parked at the rear of the bay and the car in front had moved. After the smash it had been moved a full car length to the front of the bay. The guy did stop and hang around for the police and was arrested, he admitted that he was the driver and over the limit. Not sure what to say....
Bloody hell, what a cnut ! Looked like a tidy little mk2 as well. At least he stayed around though, most of them would have legged it. Good luck in getting as much out of him as possible, let us know what happens to him.
I don't think this will polish out: It needed a front ball-joint to pass the MOT but was coming together after a fair bit of work. It looks like the police have let him go for now, his insurance documents were left on the front seat of the van so I have a copy of them in case I need them. As the car was smashed against the curb, the two BBS's on the other side are seriously damaged from being bounced up the curb. The back window on the drivers side is popping out.
Gutted that all the hard work and parts you had from me have gone to waste! Not to mention the RA's. Sorry for you mate.
that's bad luck. looks like another mk2 write off mine had less damage than that and the insurers wrote it off, good luck, hope you get at much as possible out of him....
yes i think its definately safe to say that mk2 is scrap best option for you would to be find a mint shell weather its a driver or another GTI and re shell it all takes time but would be worth it
Yep, those RA's were a bit dirty but flawless. I think I am going to take them off anyway as I might be able to do something with them. I guess I need to convince the insurers that it is not an 18 year old heap but a collectors car. I have a pile of receipts for parts such as callipers, disks, suspension, springs and numerous other bits. I guess I go in high and use adverts on here and piston heads to prove it's worth.
the insurance accessor used piston heads to value mine as it was a bit different to his normal stuff (mk2VR). My mate who works at the garage where the car was, said the accessor didn't even go and look at it proper just looked across the yard at it and said... is that the mk2 there, if so it's a right off. then got in his car and went, then he was asking me why it was insured for so much
he is mine didn't look that bad till you looked inside to see a full scale model of the andes in the boot floor also needed two rear quaters
Back from removing everything that was removable so that they don't get stolen. The rear boot does not lock so cable ties are holding that all together. The oil cooler has been holed, we think the car bounced up the car with enough force to send the engine moving on the mounts enough to hit the cooler on the subframe. There is a small oil slick were it was left since last night. RA's are off and some other wheels are on, the rear quarter has been pulled out so it can at least roll. It had already been photo'd from every angle so I can show the assessor what it was like though I expect them to do the same as you Faithless and just take a quick look. I want them to know that it wasn't just a 19 year old car but a classic that I had worked on for 18 months.
I am looking at a Mk iV 1.8T for now and then will get another MK II GTi when things calm down a bit. I am not expecting the MKIV to handle like the MK II did but my work miles are increasing and it is mostly motorway.
