    Hello all

Im replacing the head gasket on my digi 8v.

Can I use a metal G60 head gasket? Are these alot stronger than the standard ones? Is there any point?

    thank you

their a lot stronger and I believe are multi layer so can be split down to help raise the compression

Just use a 16v abf one, its multi layer metal, they are the best upgrade for a 8V

Personally I wouldn't bother on a standard or standard-ish car.

If your head gasket is blown, it's more important to fix the root cause of it than try to upgrade the gasket.

abf gasket is no goot, its the wrong size, will drop the compression quite a bit! gotta be a G60 one.
edit: yeah agree with mike, on a normal 8v there isnt much point, I mean the std gasket lasted fine till now, so why bother spending the extra on a g60 gasket! if you have Big Plans then a G60 gasket is worth looking into however.

    Sorry to revive this. .
Does anyone have a part number for the metal G60 head gasket? And also if it is possible to remove any layers of the gasket what sort of compression increase will there be per layer? Will there be any chance of interferance between the valves and pistons?

    Cheers

As a rough rule of thumb - removing 0.1mm gets you 0.1 compression points, so it depends on what you remove.

cheers. Is it best to get the head bolts from vw themselves as reading on here people have had mixed reviews of gsf ones?

I've never had any issues with GSF ones, think it's the 16v ones that arn't so hot from GSF. Seen quite a few threads by people snapping them, though some turned out to be due to them using the wrong torque setting
