( i dont want - or more like, cant afford - one of the off the shelf items from somewhere like demon tweeks ) cheers

I got my DIGIFIZ from germany (www.ebay.de) theres lots on there. But be prepaired for alot of work. if you can get the loom too DO. ull have to frig some brackets too as the digifiz dash fits in a completely different dash board, for some dumb reason (only avalible lhd). but it fits in mine ok.
The bigges risk it that ull spend all this cash and it wont work. I had to repair the board to get mine to work.
All that said it looks BADASS. then all ull need to do is convert it to mph.
From what i have seen the astra ones look much more simple (less wires) and they have a switch for mph/kph. there also lots cheeper and do look good too. However you do then get the comment "I've go one of them in my astra" Odea, theres always a catch.

well firstly fitting both will require the use of wire cutters. But the Digifiz has a 14pin block and a 18 pin block of connectors and most need attaching to somthing. The discriptions of each connection can be found.. in german.
The astra one as far as i recal, has only 10 or so connectons, theres a website some where which details each but i cant remember where. Even if that site is down all the detail will be easy to find in english.
If your car is a 90 speck (with the hazard warning light switch on the stearing column) you should get down the scrappy and pick up the short loom from the fuse box to the dash. Then modify that to fit the new clocks - that way you can go back to your old setup if needed.
If its not 90 then i cant say as i havent realy inspected the looms on these cars to any extent. However i would try and do it in a non distructive manner so that you can revert back if needed.
