I'll be honest, i'm not a fan of the new golf, its just got too fat and ugly at the back; which means I haven't really been paying attention.

Anyway, I saw three MK VIs on the way to work Fri morning, all 3 of them had their front lights on but not the back, it wasn't sunny but it was certainly a bright morning.

my question is this... do they have Volvo disease where the sidelights are constantly on?

good safety feature imo.... stops people driving about 1st thing in the morning / early evening thinking they dont need to put their lights causing people not to see them!

maybe the auto lights sensor is a bit over active.. or they are on a timer

Needs to be put on the computer to do it, and the official word from VW is once there turned off they can't be turned back on.

    I`m glad they do...

The RS6 that chased me had them, and at least I could see where he was in the traffic behind...

See a couple of R8s about with their LED sidelights on in the daytime and I thought they were w*nkers. But stand corrected now.

    Nah, still w*nkers...

I do too, and think it should be standard on all cars.

its not eu law yet, but it will be compulsary soon - I cant remember the exact date and if I could be botherd to look on the system I could find out, but its Reg 87 iirc - some use LEDs - see audis - and some use the cheaper idea of full beam lamps, but at 1/2 power, as they ahve used for some states in the US for years.

You used to be able to turn them on and off on vw's with VAG COM as all ou did was chnage the vehicle coding from EU to US to turn them on, BUT now its compulary in the EU this option wont be available.

the rules have also changed a bit iirc, it used to be DLR on all the time, but new approvals now have to go out when the dip headlights are put on, so depending when the lamp was approved they may stay on with the dip beam - ala Audi A4 B8 S lines, or they may go off.

also DLRs ONLY turn on lights at the front, the rear lamps are no on,

On the mk6 and new 'rocco as soon as the transport mode is turned off on PDI the DRLs are on, I was told they can't be coded out as the earlier cars can be.

Basically transport mode turns off a lot of the electrical systems of the car, for when it's parked up at the docks/parked at dealershiips awaiting delivery inspection etc to conserve battery power.

It'll still drive and have basic electrical systems functioning.
