This is no GVK/Golfgirl review. Mines gonna be very short. It's nice, it's comfy, it sounds pretty good and was very easy to drive. I liked the brakes. Gear change was much better than other cable changes i've driven (but still wasn't that good IMO). 2 sided aricon is cool. Steering felt nice and direct, light enough to potter around in, heavy enough to feel good when being used properly. Bad points... A turbo 16v should rev It shouldn't have a horrible flat spot every time you put your foot on the throttle. Clutch is far too light. In my opinion it's a nice car, but i don't think it's that spectacular. I'm booking up test drives in all sorts of cars as we speak though, so i will be adding to this thread and comparing them in the next month or so... Next week is the Seat Leon Cupra R 225, then the week after should be the Clio V6 225
I did, asked the salesman why it waits before it starts going anywhere. He couldn't come up with a slaes pitch quote to reply with. Oh, had the dash lights flicking 2nd gear wheelspin when pulling off and that traction control light on a roundabout. Apparently, in the cars 275 miles of test drives he hasn't seen the traction control come on before (if anyone gets offered a Black ex-demo car from Lakeside VW cheap, remember i've driven it) Edited by: Tubthumped
Performance wise, did you think it was as quick as your mk2? I thought it had good initial torque but after 5k was pretty lifeless.
ESP traction contool thingy, ahh that was the 1st thing to get turned off Other than absolutely fan flippin' tastic seats- unortunatly trimmed in chavtastic burbury plaid!, I think the Cupra R is a better car tho...
I honestly think my Mk2 would laugh at it like it does Saxos. Monitor Lizard - i asked if i could turn it off, salesman said he would rather i didn't!
when a lad from work went to look for a leon cupra he took me along for advice and for the test drive "they are meant to be driven quick lads, so feel free to open her up a bit" i've never seen a car salesman get both hands on the jesus handle before - but i was impressed at how controllable the lift-off oversteer is...
There seems to be a lot of people that have managed to get the traction control light flashing Edited by: Golfgirl
It's because of the phenomonal torque from VWs latest beautiful 4 cylinder turbocharged unit that utilises the latest up to date FSI fuelling technology. Edited by: GVK
Drove one last year the Shugborough Ride and Drive weekend, f**king ACE fun! Traction control light flickering away as up the Chase we wheel span it on every single car park gravel and entrance you could! Imense fun!!!!! Nasty red stiched interior thou! Edited by: Funkyfin2000
Next week is the Seat Leon Cupra R 225, then the week after should be the Clio V6 225 Funny you should mention that.My Dad had a test drive of the new GTi a couple of weeks ago,and said he won't be changing his Cupra R 225,says his is a better drive than the golf. Bet he'd change his mind though if he has a go of the DSG when it surfaces! Edited by: sixpot
The Mk5 gti wieghs in at a hefty 1328kg!! This means anything with more than 150bhp/ton will p155 all over it!!
