On a photographic forum I belong to, we are working our way through the alphabet. This week's letter is E and I was pondering what to photograph today, when I went outside and found - an egg!

Henry (L) and Rosie (R) are the proud parents of this egg. Sadly, it is unlikely to hatch in my garden and also sadly, he is not giving her an affectionate nuzzle - that is tortoise foreplay and he is about to bite her leg! Who says romance is dead!

Rosie lays several each year, but none hatched so far. Have tried putting them in a tray of vermiculite in the air cupboard, but no joy.

Pity, as tortoises now sell for several hundred pounds.
