Saw these advertised in the exhaust specialist the other day... Reading through the leaflet, CGTI gave them a thumbs up. They're relatively cheap, but are they any good? Looked pretty easy to install too, DIY style. Tom
they do bugger all. in fact, i heard a rumour that they're involved in a law suit for false advertising (they claim it improves performance and fuel economy, and its been found they do neither!)
CGTI gave them a thumbs up? who at cgti did? everyone on their forum and all the members I speak to hate the things! in fact its several club gti members that explained to me what a rip off they are!
i read this quote the other day in a magazine while i was at longlife getting a backbox made up. Couldnt believe it! Unless there is another club gti (pug, rover?) it seems a bit odd
I have one here, in the bottom of my toolbox, I bought a pair for my '95 M5 ( as you need two if over 2 litres ) and, what a sack of sh1t3 they were, I removed them in UNDER 1000 miles, they were noisy, made the assisted breaking WORSE and... surprise surprise( NOT ).. did NOT make the fuel economy better, my fuel computer proved that... and I am more likely to believe German engineering than a plastic valve with a spring and gauze in !!!! If you are wondering what happened to the other one.... I stamped on it...... waste of money ! but, my fault I suppose for *buying in* Andi
its amazing all the testimonies on their forum. But I think they can be taken witha pinch of salt - one guy is asking if it will work in tandem with his "surbo" - a device which ecotek claim is a waste of money in comparison to theirs (which, of course, is not, no, not at all!)
Think I'll give it a miss then. A friend looked into it too and found the same false advertising claims. Bit shocking really. As I say, I merely took the leaflet and read through the Club GTI (amongst loads of other big names) testimonial and thought I'd look into it a bit more. With CGTI backing (think others like Redline scored it highly too), I'm sure quite a lot of people are getting them without bothering to check on the forum first. Cheers. Tom
I know I'm gonna get slated for this but ..... I had one on my 1.3 MK2 Carb and i honestly reckon it pulled a little better (repeat a little better) from 3000rpm onwards with it fitted. I dont think it saved fuel but then again if I was worried about that i'd take the stereo out' loose the seats and convert it to solar power or something
i dont see how it improves power seeing as it only works on liftoff... i had one and took it off after a couple of weeks flogged it recently for 20 quid!! bonus. it did nothing for mpg/power, your reputation is an entirely different matter! it does however make you look a complete knobend when you ease up to traffic with an ear piercing stuck pig SSSCCCRRRRAAWWWWWWW! for once saxoboy can laugh out loud with justification. Please go an read that link before you make any morecomments. Amongst other things it points out that if your car had a badly adjusted carburettor, then an Ecotek valve can have the effect of sorting out the mixture. Of course the cheaper solution is to get your carb adjusted properly in the first place. However it does precisely nothing for fuel injected cars. Simon.
