Well I went to have a look at the car last night, it's really nice and was just what i'm after. It needs a couple of small bits doing on it but nothing a weekend can't sort out. Looks like it's had some paint in the past but it's a nice job by the looks and theres very little or no rust in all the usual places. Had a good skeg round underneath it aswell and it looks very clean and tidy. Can't wait to get it home and give it a good going over before starting on some modifications and general mintyness! It's a second car as I have a Passat for daily use so i'm looking forward to being able to pull it apart and not worry about having something to get to work in the next day! Any tips as to where I can find a new 8v rocker cover? Will post some pictures when I get it
Anyone know where I can source a decent 8v rocker cover? Seem to be a bit scarce on eBay and cant find it in GSF? Thanks
Last week I found a couple of US sites selling interesting steel rocker covers. Non-standard pressing, in black or chrome, with 2 tapped holes at the end. If you are interested, let me know and I will go back through history and try to relocate them.
What`s wrong with yours? I was trying to source one a while back and GSF wanted 60+ for one! I ended up wire brushing, and re-painting my original and it came up looked brand new. Unless yours is utterly fubar, a re-furb is cheap and easy.
Thanks for the information guys. Someone has rather tastefully painted it yellow at some stage? Now it has cracked and just looks rubbish. I think I may have to have a go at re-furbing mine then! Cheers Will
"Bilt Hamber" supply a chemical that eats the rust out of the pits that wire brushing sometimes leaves. It is available as a gell or powder. Used the powder, disolved in a bucket, on a set of Mk3 rear calipers, before painting them black!
G60 rocker cover is a nice upgrade, alloy. MK3 2.0 8v will fit, but tweaking to the breathers are required
Cheers John, Ummm I think for now I will tart up my existing one as I already have a tunes 2.0 ABF conversion in mind! Really cant wait to get stuck into it now, got a nice double garage lined up. Already got lots of tools ready to go :-D
Haha no doubt I will be forever asking questions about how to put it back together once I've managed to take it all apart. Im sure i'll manage it eventually though!
