Yes definitely worth checking, they are cheap enough.

Do you plan on modding or mapping it?

If you were planning on upgrades, Loba do a HPFP and it comes with a free cam follower.

Cam follower is only 25ish from TPS or 45 for a follower/seal/new bolt kit from AwesomeGTI. Does not take long to replace - 30 mins max if you dont break anything. Mine had a fair bit of wear at 54k miles.

Unless you are going to be upgrading your fuel pump in the very near future (500+), I think the basic follower change is well worth it to prevent any damage to the pump itself.

I read somewhere it is recommended to change it every 50k. I cant say I argue with that.

Every 5k is a bit much, how much wear is on it every time?

I read on VWVortex that theres an updated camshaft available from VW, is this worldwide or only in the States?

Yup - I agree. At 26, it isnt painful changing it at the same time as dumping your oil and fitting a new oil filter etc.

I have 'heard' about a updated cam too, but have not verified whether it is true or not (yet).

Mine (on the left) at 80K. New one on the right.

It's another one of those forum sensationalised problems. Bottom line - regular oil changes = you'll be fine, but check it every 10K for peace of mind. If the follower wears through, it eats the HPFP plunger away and you're looking at a new pump and cam.

Also check the cam lobe to see if it's beaten up. Mine's absolutely fine.

    I've just bought a 94,000mile 55reg GTI.

Does anyone have the part numbers of the follower and seal?
