Hi guys, My mate has a 2000 VW Golf GTi (2ltr) and it's just started playing up. From what I've been told it's been cutting out on idle and whilst being driven and he was under the impression it could be due to the fuel pump reg. We've had the car on VAGcom and I was just wondering if anyone could possible list the problems that could be causing this issue.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

1st step clear the codes and drive it for a bit, see what comes back. they could all be really old!

Try leaving your door open then turn ignition on, do you hear the fuel pump cutting in ? If not good chance its relay is knackered, the fuel pump relay is used to operate the injectors so sounds like this is at fault.

When the fuel pump relay goes bad it will trigger many fault codes with electrical shorts to ground. The fuel pump relay is also used to turn on the injectors, and will show injector short to ground failures. If you open your door you hear the pump kick on, if the pump no longer kicks on, and you experience these codes repeatedly, replace the fuel pump relay.

Thanks for the reply guys. I had a word with my mate and he said he cleared the codes but I don't have VAGcom so can't check myself to see what codes have came back. I have pulled the relay for the fuel pump out and I'm going to replace it with a new one to see if that sorts the cutting out problem.

cool, relay will probably sort it, mine did similar when my fusebox was corroded and i kept loosing pump power. there is also a code for key signal too low, might need a new key readher in the future if it keeps playing up. that'll cause immob to kick in though so you'll know if ts causing a prob
