    Hi guys,

I have a problem with my golf mk3 gti 1998; it's not a major problem, I'm hoping anyway but I could be wrong, when I'm in gear and moving the car runs great, it's when I drop into neutral whether I'm moving or stopped, and on occasion the car will just lose revs and stall, sometimes it will drop down to as little as 3000 rpm and stutter a bit and return to about 9000 and keep the engine running, this problem occurs most when it's cold and or wet, whether that actually affects I'm not sure but it does seem to.

Someone suggested it may be the fuel regulator, or relay I think? Could it be this?

Is it a serious problem from the sounds of it?

How would you suggest I test or get someone to test the engine?

    Thanks guys.

Check for air leaks and have a look inside the throttle body. They can get really oily which will cause the revs to drop and stall

I think you need to drop a zero from those rev numbers, but it does sound a lot like a filthy throttle body.

Whip the air intake to throttle body pipe off and have a little look.
