Hi all, just had the dreaded ESP/ABS warning light come on and I was wondering is it just a case of cleaning the sensors as a first point of call as i have with cars in the past or is there anything else i can do to reset it. I've tried the ESP Button by the lighter etc with no joy. The warning light stays on all the time even after restarting the car. Thanks, Pete
Of course, it will need diagnostics carrying out to prove the fault. On these it's usually the brake pressure sensor which is part of the ABS module, it's a common fault on all Teves MK60 ABS equipped vehicles. (Ford,VW,BMW also have the same problem) You can get the module repaired by ECU repairers such as BBA reman. It's a very common problem, so you may even get lucky with goodwill at VW.
Thanks for the reply, i'll try cleaning all the sensors then if no joy book it in at Awesome or something. Cheers, Pete
The ESP/ABS warning light can come on with a engine fault as well But you tend to have the engine light on as well but not always I don't think this is it in you case though as it tends to clear when you switch it on and off and come back after a few miles of driving As GVK said getting is scanned for the fault is the way forward Hope it's something simple
have a feeling your right I just like to look on the bright side not that it always pans out the fault i'v seen come up with the ABS when a engine fault has been loged is 01314
Ok Guys you were right for future ref the fault code was 'G201 Brake pessure sensor 1'. VW have a repair kit for this for about 140 plus fitting now out so about 200 all in, from memory. Thanks again but as GVK says depending on the cars age and miles etc you might even get this on VW goodwill if you have a nice dealer near you.
They won't do it on good will, I've tried in the last couple of months. Let them fit it as even with Vcds its a b'stard to bleed!
I had mine done for free last week, they had to get the ok from headquarters, I do have vwfsh and they did bleed my breaks last year as part of the service. 08 Edition 30, 454k
They will do this on goodwill. BBC watchdog got on to it. I had my wife's golf plus done in jan this year FOC! We never take it to them for a service and on a 55 plate at 150k ! Tell them you heard about the watchdog investigation. Failing that contact vw UK... They will fix for free. We used EuroCanterbury VW... No hassle at all They even scanned it for free. They didn't make a single penny out of me.
My 09 GTI also just needs a module replacement at 131K. This might be a recall for safety issues, file a complaint with safer.org (NHSTA) http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners...ake=VOLKSWAGEN&searchCriteria.prod_ids=483779
