Well I had to today when my friggin remote central locking decided to give up (delocked door handles). I couldn't get in through the rear hatch due to a corroded lock. Was about to smash window, when I thought I'd give the door driver's door handle a good tug.... Bl00dy thing came off in my hand
done a similar thing yesterday , left my keys in the mk2 van and push the lock down without thinking and walked away then couldn`t think where i`d put my keys, so i pull the plastic cover off, undone the screw pulled back the door handle, put a screwdriver down inside and popped the door open, bit to easy really
Easy on mk1s and mk2s, with a coat hanger, no need to pull the door handle off. I can get into a mk1 almost as quick as using the key! Cheers, Drew.
Well anybody who knows the cars,m knows!! if they havn't got the extra systems in place, which mine has! I'll delete it later Tim, if thats ok with every body! for our own safty
I've locked my keys in my car before, while I was fitting the central locking, I was testing the back door, so I locked it, slammed it shut and realised I'd left the keys on the seat, and the f*cking thing had finally worked and locked all the doors!!! Had to lever open a gap in the top of the door then use one of those flexy grabby things to grab the door pin. Also lost the keys to my beetle in a club once, took me about 2 mins with a coat hanger to get into it, and didn't even have to wedge the top of the door open , there was already a hole big enough!!
Why? Every scumbag knows how to get into a Mk2, they don't need this thread to tell them. They've been being getting stolen for 20 years now, I don't imagine the criminal fraternity will learn a lot from this thread. As Drew insinuated, it's quicker to break into a Mk1 or Mk2 than it is to use the keys......
Can also slide a thin bit of wire down the side of the door and actually hook the door pin and pull it up. No point really trying to make it hard to get into, I only use the reinforcement plates to hide previous damage and prevent (hopefully) future attempts. Scarily loud alarm the best bet. Mate had a military siren on his, would scare the living crap out of you. Joe
Round my way it is best to leave the car unlocked. They are going to break into it anyway, and this way they don't damage anything.
Lol, makes those armour door plates look completly worthless....only good for covering old break in's!!
Lets face it nout they dont allready know, though I get some odd looks and comments every time I open a bonnet on a locked mk2 at the salvage auction to check out the engine bay.
How do you manage that!! I had an *rse of a job trying to get into the bonnet of my old golf when the bonnet release stopped working! Or do you just break into the car and then use the bonnet release?? Edited by: Mk2_Ozz
I'm not going to say how to do it but you can make a thing to protect against it, I think some of the usual retailers used to stock them around the time GTIs were the best thing to nick (anytime before mobile phones) Try getting under the bonnet of a corrado without opening the car... its one of the hardest I've had to do, ended up breaking the headlight and ripping all the reflector etc out. (renaults are fatherless childs as well, but you can rip the bonnet off with your bare hands) Most cars can be opened so easily that you wouldnt notice anyone doing it, I broke into my ma's car once to get some kip (no keys, drunk at 2am) as I did it the coppers came around the corner and didnt do more than glance at me as they went by slowly.
