Gonna dump this MTL in tomorrow...
If the filler plug won't come out, how do i got about filling through the speedo drive hole?

Is it easier to do it that way anyway?

filler plug? do you mean the allen bolt on side of box?
if you fill up through speedo cable hole just watch for the gear dropping off into box [:s]

Yup. Put the tube into the cable hole, and squeeze the stuff in. the filler hole is a bit pointless. You might need a bit of hose if yours isn't long enough.....

cable can sometimes become stuck,if you pull thinking it will pop out it can knock the sh1tty little clip off the end.
jus need to keep it centered and b carefull.

you can fill via the reverse switch hole with a small funnel..my speedo cable seemed stuck so i did that..although you should have the filler plug out to see when its full

HOW CAN THE FILLLER BE POINTLESS? you're meant to fill it until the level reaches that fill hole....how are you meant to know if you don't take the plug out?

get the proper 17mm hex plug key from halfords and a 3/8" -1/2" adapter then get your breaker bar onto it, that'll shift it.

VW want you to break it....

the Oil will be f*cked after 40K....it'll be a nasty, stinking grey/black slime.

    change it.

Wow Phat, you do realy get your shirt off sometimes!! ;)
You know when theres the right level when you've put the recommened 2 litres in.
When I filled yours Tub I put it in through the speedo drive hole, just use a funnel or a cone made from an old pop bottle. Seal the edge with some tape to stop the mess though.
If you pull the speedo drive straight out from the hole it should be ok, and you won't have anything falling into the box.

The 17mm plug at the bottom is a right pain in the ass. Always super tight!! Use either the correct tool, or an M12 x 20mm bolt with a nut welded onto the opposite end. The head of the bolt is 17mm so you can use a power bar on the other end.

the best thing I've found for filling gearboxes is an old mk2 golf sunroof drain pipe. nice and flexible so you can fill the box through the hole in the side.

fits perfectly over the end of the spout in most oil bottles! (not the redline ones though unfortunately).

you can make a funnel out of the first container you use.

note, you need to cut a hole in the bottom of the bottle to let the air in or it doesn't work.

I have one of those funnels from Halfords with the long flexy neck.

The funnel part unscrews and you can screw in the bottle.

Not better, just another way of doing it.
