Test drove a 1984 Mk2 Gti when I was 21 (13 years ago!) end up buying it. Was glorious until I broke the clutch into 3 pieces.[8(]

    Driven as though stolen.[8D]

The first GTi i drove was my brothers 2.0L 8v MK2.
I was only 14 at the time and to me it was like driving a super car!!!

From that day onwards, i become a complete dub addict, especially with MK2s.

At the age of 15 i finally bought a silver 1.3 MK2 and a non runner black GTi and swapped all the GTi parts over to the 1.3

I caught the bug being driven around in a black 1986 mk2 that my parents owned - I would have been 5 or 6 at the time.

Cue 20 years later, finally getting into one and it felt really familiar - even though it's a step down in power from the Boxster...

    1997 when I got my old Mk2 8v.

TBH shouldn't have bought it, was a complete nail, but I loved the grunt it had.

I see your jump and raise you 72bhp to 240bhp when I bought my Supra Turbo.

Razzed a mate's GTi a while back now, still desperate for my own one.

1991 - Mk2 8v and wondered what all the fuss was about as I had an Astra GTE at the time [:D]. 16v was next - an improvement on the 8v so ordered one - kept for seven years [:D]

    1992 - Tim Stiles`s Mk1 GTI OKU [:D] [:D] - had my own version 8 years later and still do [:D] [:D] [:D]

    2005 - Mk2 2.016v - still going strong [:D] [:D] [:D]

Helios Blue Mk2 Gti 88, Bought it after having a 1.3 with 247,000 miles on the clock, Felt many times quicker and it had power steering! And didn't constantly squeak, Recently got scrapped (I loved that car) Now replaced with 1.6 Driver waiting for the engine conversion to a VR!
Should have been driving around in it still. But it was pre 90 so it was a lot of work!

I test drove and soon after bought my 1st gti in 2002. I was 18 it cost me a fortune to insure but i loved it. 5 door oak green 8v standard car. Went like a rocket. I part ex it for my 1.3 toyota corrolla. So felt so much quicker.

Since then tried corraddos, g60, mk1 love them all!!

the first GTI i drove was my mk3 16v. I bought the car over the internet without seeing it or driving it! did the finance and had to get my mum to guarantoor as I was only 18 and they thought i was going to smash it up and then not pay for it. When we got there, before she had signed she said what does 16v mean? fuel economy mum, because i do lots of miles dont i

Went and picked it up from Richmond with my mum in her 1.0 Polo and then she wanted to follow me home to Southampton and wouldnt go over 65 [8(] once we got to the M3 I text her saying don't turn off and you will be fine, drove flat out to 145 (on the clocks anyway!!) and then slowed back down to 70 with the biggest grin on my face. Been hooked ever since.

based on what exactly? Wikipedia states 134, which would probably be 145 on the clocks with 10%-ish error
