The ideal place to fit them appears tp be where the rubber thingy's are on the slam panel.....is that the place everyone else does it?

    HI Andrew

I fitted a set to the jetta last week fairly easy to do as long as you do it in the right order. Ive fitted a few set's in the past. First fit the pins to the front top slam panel as per pic, in the area you want the top fasterners to be. Judge this by measuring from the inside of the wings.

Then close the bonnet on to the pin to create a small dent in the under side of the bonnet as a locating mark then drill the mark with a 10mm bit, 5mm to start. Once the hole is drilled use a file to create a square hole for the pin to enter. Keep filing until the pin will pass through the hole without catching on the lower part of the bonnet.

Once this is achieved on both sides you can drop the bonnet on to the pins and push gently down so the pins will make a small dent on the upper bonnet skin. Then drill this again with a 10mm bit and file to a square hole so the pins pass cleanly through the whole bonnet

Once the pins will pass cleanly through the bonnet, fit the top fasteners and then lower the pins via top and bottom nuts until the sliding pins on the top fastner just go through for a tight fit with no rattle. I kept the rubbers in place so when the bonnet is closed there is no movement, as the rubber acts as a stopper. Also I positioned my pins in the slight recess of the bonnet to add with air flow.

    hope this helps, mike

Some people use lengths of hose over the pins to stop them rattling also.

Would the natural place to fit them be where the rubbers go or do they stop it all ratling?

Also which way do most fit them vertical or horizontally on the bonnet?

You can fit them wherever you want really, horizontally/vertically makes no difference IMO ive done a few and this works best for me.

That makes sense Chris, i think i'm gonna use the exitising holes, then pop a bit of hose over the clips to stop rattling. I think that will then mean they will have to be the same way round as on your polo.
