The girl shouting at him not to touch the armco was also amusing....I would have been more concerned about him not killing me.

    From Ben Lovejoy's nurburgring.org.uk:

Optional extras available at additional cost include armco repairs, safety car attendance, vehicle recovery, track closure, hospital stays and helicopter rides. I recommend avoiding these. If you can't, then the following price-list may help:

Base fee for attendance of armco truck: €150
    Removing damaged armco: €10/metre (x2 or x3 or x4 for multiple-height sections)
    Replacement armco: €31/metre (x2 or x3 for double/triple height)
Removing damaged armco posts: €5.10 each
    Replacing armco post: €39 each
Safety car attendance: €82 per 30 mins (car + 2 people)
    Circuit closure: €1,350 per hour
    Recovery truck: €190 (inc VAT)
Hospital stay & air ambulance: Let's just say, do NOT go there without travel insurance! (Though a European Health Card - which replaced the E111 - may cover the hospital bit.)
Everything except the recovery truck is then subject to 19% VAT.

The record armco bill I'm aware of is €15,000. That was a car that managed to flatten a very impressive length of armco between the Quiddlebacher Hohe bridge and the crest on the approach to Flugplatz. But even a minor bump can turn into a surprisingly expensive day out.

    ^indeed.
What amazes me is the number of people (Brits in particular) who choose the Nordschleife as their first ever track driving experience. Honestly, they're insane.
Car forums arranging trips there of say 10 cars will typically have 3 or 4 owners who have never, ever driven their car on a racetrack. Unreal.
For me, it's something to work towards and a place that I fear and respect in equal measure.

NB, I know what you mean..

It was my 2nd track i'd driven, 40-50laps of combe and a bit of training on an airfeild from a mate who races junior forumla BMW, i was comfy enough driving the ring..

I let my mate do 5 laps on the ring in my car, it was his first track he'd driven..

To be honest i saw ALOT worse driving there than him, for me its all about attitude..

Either way, its pretty scary, ust dont think about the armco and recorvery costs [8(]

well the ring will be my first track outing... and I understand what you mean N/B...

to be honest I am very cautious about it. I won't be pushing hard at all, just getting a feel for the car and building slowly as I get a bit more familiar with the track.

Let me put it another way - my girlfriend will be in the passenger seat and it would be her credit card that any damages would be going on. Needless to say I will be on my best behavior!!! lol

There is little hope for you fella.
Sod the Armco bill, do not dice with your girl's life to earn a badge of honour.
It's not just your own capabilties that are put to the test, and you don't have to be the cause of an accident to be affected by one.
Seriously mate, give it a second thought.

So would travel insurance not cover the Armco costs if you were to hit it?

Great video by the way [:D]

Be lucky if your car insurance will pay out!

The ring was my first track outing and it was very very busy, still just read all the FAQ's you can find on the ring and aslong as you are a capable responsible driver you will be fine.

Oh and people say that playing GT4 wont really help, IT WILL! Cant imagine how hard it would of been if I hadent at east knew what was coming round the next corner.

No, not at all - Of course, it would have to be special travel insurance for motorsport..

I mean, Winter Sports travel insurance pays out for costs like breaking a leg which would probably be higher than replacing some armco!
