    Hi,

My MK2 GTi 8v has something wrong with the suspension...

It started as a barely noticeable little noise when taking up drive and has developed a bit over the last month or so. If it put my foot down it pulls a little to the left, makes a klonking noise over bumps and when taking up drive and wanders a bit to the left. [:s]

One engine mount has been replaced but I am not sure as to the state of the others, or the front suspension.

    Any ideas appreciated!

    Cheers.

Sounds like your gearbox mount is dead [xx(]
But check your wishbone bushes also ...a dead rear one will give the same problems

Thanks  - could that also cause random juddering from the clutch, or premature clutch wear? Also how easy are they to replace??

The captive nut for the rear wishbone bush can break loose
    Worth looking at

But could be a number of things

Was going to say the same Mushy

Ive had both of my wishbone captive nuts go, which caused the same pulling and clonking.

Jack it up and see if the rear bolts are loose. If when tightening and it keeps spinning, its more than likely your captive nut has broken off. You can access it through the footwell fix it.

aye once you've had it happen you don't forget it
mine was ok in the dry but in wet it was just about undriveable was all over the shop

one thing to watch is sometimes people mix the bolts up and the one for the front bush is longer and if fitted to the rear one it bottom's out before it is tight

OK, checked the rear captive nuts and seem ok.

I am pretty convinced that it's the gearbox mounts, are these the same as the rear engine mounts? I'm looking on VW heritage and getting confused! Also, are they easy to fit?

if you have a hydro mount its a bit too long to come out un less you also remove the alloy gearbox bracket. bit random but if you read thru my gear linkage faq I touch on gearbox mount swap as its a great time to do the box mount when refurbing the linkages as you unbolt the gearbox attached parts to get the mount out
