Hey, I've got a pretty silver scirocco with an ABF engine in, I thought fuel consumption was savagely bad so I took it too my local garage for them to have a look. Turns out I've got fat fuel leak going on, my whole tank needs replacing. How hard would this be to do myself as I've got another scirocco I can nick the tank out of and the garage wants 470 for labour and a new tank! :thumbd::thumbd::cry::cry:Even if I just removed the tank from the other scirocco it would save me 120 in parts. Just wondered if anyone could give me the heads up on whether it was a big job?

I've also got a mk2 golf fuel tank in my garage but I would guess that wouldn't fit?

    Thanks, Jack:p

    Mk2 Golf tank won't fit.

Scirocco tank removal is fairly straightforward but it will involve dropping the rear beam. You won't need to remove it completely but you will need to take it off it;s mounting in order to get the necessary wiggle room.

Is the ABF Scirocco originally an injection? And what about the possible donor - injection or carb?

all the post-84 cabrio and scirocco use the same tank regardless of fuel system used so thats a plus for you, is it definitely the tank though and not the filler neck?

All done this weekend, took the tank of the doner scirocco and it looked basically new, I painted it up. The other tank did look worse for wear once I'd took it off. The filler neck did look okay but I'll keep my eye on it as not going to rule it out. It had started rusting through near where the filler neck connects and around the weld all the way round.

Took near enough the whole weekend, but saved me 470!!!

Cheers for the input guys!:thumbup:
