On the side of the head you will probably find at least one earth, for the engine management, plus GTI models with MFA have another here for the dash cluster. There is often an earth from the rear of the head to the lower coil mounting bolt too. There is a wire from the battery negative in the headlight loom which ends at a 4 way white spade block. The wire from the rear of this block goes to the earth claw somewhere above the fusebox, where the accessory earths are located. The front of the white spade block has the main fusebox earth in it from D/22, an earth from the dash loom plus if its a GTI the fuel pump earths here as well. On cars equipped with an MFA computer near the fusebox you'll find a male spade from the clock harness with brown and brown/white wires, then a wire plugs into this in the engien loom which is the earth to the head I mentioned earlier. On the A pillar either side there is a stud, depending on age/model/equipment you may find an earth for the radio, an earth for the blower motor and maybe some others. At the back either on the boot floor, near the boot lip, or behind the boot cards/carpets you will find earth points for the rear lights, rear wiper, screen heater and rear washer pump depending on what equipment is fitted, the age and type of car. Whilst comparing the CE1 and CE2 to do my ABF into MK1 caddy conversion.I have found that there is no rear right light on plug E (18 pin) on the CE1 plug descriptions,(post 6)? Is it pin 18 and the description missing the word "right"? Sorry to be a pain but i have double checked and cant find it Im trying to do the theory before practical with the loom. It wouldnt be possible without the valuable work i have found on here

I dont know if its right to ask here but whats the main difference between ce1 and ce2? Im going to put in a abf engine in ce1 mk2 and i dont see any problem with that!
look at the pictures of the fuseboxes, they're completely different you'll have to splice CE1 plugs onto the CE2 ABF wiring loom, something that is pretty straight forward but if you dont fancy it i can make you a conversion loom. main thing with this conversion is i add a VW relay holder above the fusebox for the ECU relay, since the CE1 ECU relay wiring goes to plug R which is only found on digifant 8v mk2.
Yea, pretty different. But i actually moved digifant 2 from audi 80 -94 to my PL mk2 and made it work without any problems! I cant really see why the central makes difference if you change the injection type, isnt the injection wiring almost standalone from the central? Sorry if its a dumb question!
theres no reason why you cant make it work, converting an abf loom to CE1 is pretty simple. as you say most of the ecu wiring is all self contained in the engine bay, there are only 5 or so wires to the fusebox direct. you really dont want to try to bodge mk2 digi managment onto an abf if thats what you meant, the proper abf management is far, far better
Yea, thanks for confirming that! About the digifant, before the abf conversion I had a pl engine, I replaced the ke-jet with digifant 2. Later i bought an mk3 16v donor car and stripped almost everything from it (even the central). But I thought it would be better if I kept the ce1. As Im mooving most from the mk3 then the digifant 3 from abf comes with!
right thats fine then, yeah there is no reason to convert to the CE2 system the CE1 fusebox can cope with it fine. just as i say normally i put the ecu relay above the fusebox since the CE1 fusebox needs plug R to power up and get the feed from the ECU relay socket. plus it doesnt have the extra feed that the ABF ecu relay uses, though this wire can just be put to ignition live. here is an abf diagram if you need it, you'll see the 2 ecu relay feeds i mean: http://vwtech.no-ip.info/downloads/g3abfecu.pdf in comparison the CE1 digifant showing R plug and only 1 ecu relay feed: http://vwtech.no-ip.info/images/golf/g2pbecu-pre90.jpg
