Gearing a bit long will changing the final drive mean better acceleration?

So they are exactly the same but with different ratios?

Input shaft is similar so same clutch. Spacing different . In later mk2 gti cars fitted with the AUG gearbox, 2nd was also a tad longer at 1.94 vs 2.12 allowing 60mph without a gear change. KR cars did not have this problem. While the 02A/J/S is a bit more durable than the 020, the key to gearboxes longevity is as said a professional rebuild and making sure the oil level is correct.

I have a preference for the 020 also. N/A only though
They have a well documented diff rivet weakness, but you will be bolting the crown wheel on anyway. Also, make sure the little spigot bush up the input shaft centre (pushrod) isn't worn either

As Jon says, don't use one of these on a turbo engine!
