Golf GTi - worth the premium???

I have always thought the MKV GTi to be ambitiously priced - Audi have just compounded the issue by releasing the A3 2.0T FSI - so same engine and gearbox. OK, the Golf has more raw driver appeal BUT the Audi A3 is 925 cheaper - std. spec is virtually identical.

Which would you choose - I personally do not like the look of the MKV Golf, even in GTi spec but accept its a great drivers car - the Audi appeals for its styling and definitely superior build quality!!!!!!

The audi will hold it's value better than the golf, always have always will.

I've got to give it to the A3 over the Mk5 on looks though! Roll on the MK6 is all i can say.

The Std A3 2.0T is cheaper, but the spec is well down on the Golf GTI.

    For starters you dont get:

    17" alloys,
    Front fog lights,
    Sports suspension,
    Sports Seats,
    Electronic 2Zone Climate Control,
    Rain Sensors,
    Auto-illuminating headlights,
    Auto-dimming rear view mirror,
    Interior lights package,
    Single CD Player,
    Automatic Coming/leaving home lights.
    Multi function Computer,
    Reading lights, front and rear,
Leather Steering wheel and Gera gator,
    12v boot socket,
    Front and rear mats.

In order to get anywhere near the Golf GTI spec you need to specify "Sports" trim, which adds 2000 to the price tag, and even then you still miss a few things.

The Golf is much better value in comparison.

I'd have an S3 over a GTI or R32, but take the Golf over an A3:)

Ignoring the actual name on the badge this has always been the issue between the VAG cars of the past few years. Spec differences etc, it's just how much you personally think it is worth. Ppl sl*g off the dash in the Leon but it is the same as the A3 etc etc. For those ppl where image and ultimate style street cred isn't high up the list then Skoda must be appealing.

As said in the other thread recently, there is a LOT more difference than just the badge.

The AUDI is the better product compared to VW, and as such is the better car :)

The only things on that list that i would consider to be seriously lacking on the A3 is the suspension, pretty sure you can get some decent coilovers for 700 leaving 200 for a CD player.

Sports seats, i'd have to sit in them first to decide whether i like them or not, everything else i can live with out.

Plus with the A3 being out longer theres probably more room to negotiate a few more quid off plus you'll get little things like mats thrown in for free.
