Hi all, My car is being resprayed and the body-shop is complaining to me that they cannot remove the rear bumper easily. They seem to think the petrol tank needs to come out. Does anyone have any experience with removing one and can they clarify this. Thanks all.
should be the same as any mk2 golf ie just the four bolts from underside of the car that bolt into the bumper iron then it should just slide out
OK. Thought there may be a problem as boot is very shallow because of the rear diff. I think i'll have to go down there and remove it myself. I stripped car for them apart from the bumpers. They said they would remove them for me !! Thanks Mushy
As you can see the tank sits between the bolts arrowed in this picture they do have two holes and a tab that they can be screwed or riveted on with but they would be easy to get at and 99% of the time are not used
the picture above is not a rallye but it will be much the same you also have a trim where i meets the arch but thats just to stop it rubbing
wow thank you. I'll print these pictures out and take them down to the garage. Hopefully i should have the car back in a month and then happy days. Got to source a window screen still somehow but ill just use a standard mk2 one for now. Many thanks
Had a look under the car and i can see what they're getting at (or not) ! Here's a picture - See the bolt marked with the red arrow. this is above the tank and needs to come out. The picture is looking up under this corner of the car - I think i can probably get at it without removing the tank. I'll have a go on Saturday. Forgot to look at other side to see if it was the same.
