Going to test drive a 1.4gt turbo golf tommorow, and a 2.0gti. Both 06 plate.
The cars for the missus, so the 1.4 is ideal. But i dont know any thing about the new 1.4 t engine.

Does anyone own 1?, or does anyone know anything about the engine?

    Any help is appreciated.:)

If you were to buy one new I would think you were insane. 18-21k for a 1.4 = insanity...

    it's not a 1.4 turbo for starters, it's turbo and supercharged ;)

I'm led to believe the 1.4 TSI is alittle jerky through the gears. Does go well though.

If looking for residual values, I would have thought the GTi would devalue slower and give you a better return when you cash it in.

Just check the specs as-well to see which one has more toys!!!

Do you not get more kit with the GTi, and even better street cred. GTI wins every time.

As Collie stated Clarkson hated the GT but loved the GTI.

A lot more to go wrong with the GT, fair enough it`s a really good piece of engineering but god help you if the supercharger pop`s after the warranty`s out.

tdi is the way forward i think but im not moving over to it just yet . i have a mk5 jetta as a work car at the mo . it is only a 1.9tdi 130 bhp i think , it is slow off the mark but when it get upto 60+ it's not that bad and the mpg is around 48 . twice what my gti gets !

right, just got back, and i must say, that the gti was defo my favourite. the missus also prefered the gti. the 1.4 was a bit jerky through 1st and 2nd, but not to bad through out 3rd, 4th, 5th etc..

the gti was in a world of its own, when it came to corning and exit speed. we also drove a 2.0tdi jetta, which was nippy and very good to look at.

my mate at vw said that they have the gti in 4 colours, which are all top spec, one was blue with cream leather. still indecisive about which one to choose, but its my bday next sat, so the decision has to be made sooner, rather than later.

the gti is definateley the way forward.[:D] ;)

It might just be me, and no doubt this will cause an arguement, but the wife and I went for the Jetta, as we both thought it looked better, and had a better level of kit, compared to the same Golf 2.0 diesel. GTi was too expensive for tax reasons.

    F**king loves front tyres though.

I agree. The looks of the jetta, black with the r32 grille, bbs style 17s and all the extras, definately made it stick out. the diesel is what shes used to, so we are still undecided[:s]

they also have a EDITION 30 in black. very nice in the flesh.:)
