yep, good point. i only said mexico as a defence against the golf gti being the first of the 'warm' variants of a car. Mainly cos it was the first to spring to mind too! Edited by: Seraph
A mini is a saloon, so how does that make it a hot hatch? Also, RWD minis have been done, and they handle crap. Minis are the best FWD handling cars available tbh. Why would you want a RWD one?
my mistake (i'm ill ok) i take back my comment about the mini - since it is a saloon (like the mexico) and when you say mini's are the best handling fwd car available... do you mean the best handling fwd car ever made?
i was prob reading between the lines, but was trying to respond to the oringal idea that a gti somehow inferred a hot hatch, which it clearly doesnt. Lets face it, the cooper can be kinda considered the gti of minis, and the mexico the same for escorts. I think the notions of both hot hatch and gti are fairly subjective and open to a great deal of interpretation.
I'm sure I have read that the actual labelling of cars as GTI was well before VW did it to the Golf but arguably in popular motoring press that VW 'invented' the GTI.
They can argue all they like. I have friends into jap cars as well as Minis. An integra driver told me that the integra is the best handling FWD car bar the Mini. On twisties he reckons the mini would out handle, but on more sweeping bends the integra... Edited by: KidKoala
