hello, 'thought i'd stick this up in the electrical section
as have been talkin bout it in engines...

am unable to start my mk2 valver.

after i found a weak spark from the plugs, RAC man
tested the ignition coil etc and found that the hall
sender was at fault - he shorted the connector and
the spark from the ht lead coming out of the coil was
    proper big.

i went and found myself cheap 2nd hand distributor
and fitted it, the problem is still there though - weak
    spark / can't start.
lightning does strike twice and i think i've ended up
    with two dodgy dizzys/hall senders.

so, i reckon i'm going to buy myself a new distributor
tomorrow and fit that, and hope it works.

before i go splashing out (and after scouring the
forum and internet), i just wondered if anyone had
any suggestions - about shorting etc..?

    cheers in advance!

have you checked the condition of the wires going to the plug for the hall sender?
    just a thought.

Or if you feel you're able to strip the dizzy down yourself, just buy the hall sender from GSF, when I priced one up it was about 26 for the sender. The wires are supposed to be kept away from the trigger ring but have a habit of coming free and it slices into the wire and earths the sender wire out eventually which could explain the weak spark.

i need this sorted in a hurry so i've wussed-out, its
gonna be sorted at the garage tomorrow.
thanks though for the tips, if i had more time and
spare car to get to work in then i'd probably be happy
    to do the dizzy rebuild.
