I saw this a while ago on another car, the guy had put his faceplate in his sunvisor. The car was a show car so it worked there.

got me thinking and as i want to redo my dash i decided i would put my unit in my glove box and the face plate, well as pictured, i have since reduced the size of the surround and raised it and moved the unit to the glove box, but the pics give you the idea. its growing on me and is a bit of a theft deterant cos you cant see it.

Going to finish rubbing it down and covering it with some nice material to finish it off.

Let me know what you think?

When I saw the thread title I was expecting it to go in the ashtray slot, that's pretty good work though dude, never though of doing that before.

As said i have since reduced it down a lot so its more slimline and incorrperated a modded interior light.

The sun visor was my initial thought but makes changing the volume a tad dangerous flipping down the visor all the time or having it always down. I cant drive like that. Think this works best for show cars or short people.

Thought about the passenger side but that again is dangerous as its too far away.

Will post pics of the finish product when its back in.

As said that would be the best security/ stealthy look, but not very practical, using the controls on the back of a sunvisor would get a bit annoying after a while.

It'd be the same as looking in your mirror. Plus when you know your head unit you can generally 'feel' your way round it quite easily.

    I like it.

Can you still take the face off?

Nice idea, but I'll stick to my headunit-less system ;)

Looks good! even better when finish:thumbup:.I also move my head unit to the glovebox as i used it's slot for my gauges.

Im 6"2 ,got long arms so reaching for the head unit wile driving is not a problem:lol: . but if your short........dnt even think about it onless you do do the sun visor,or harrymonk's way.

Cant wait to see it finish:clap:

    Afraid I have to agree.

What's wrong with the slot VW give you?

A mod with a purpose is fine by me, but this is modding just for the sake of modding IMHO.

A good idea and works well in many cases but personally I wouldn't have mounted it there. It tends to work best when you have an unsuitable position provided, such as a Corsa B where it is very low down. Suppose its the age old thing of personal preference but I think VW have always provided a good functional location for the head unit. Also I would't like the idea of having to go into my glove box every time I want to change discs.
