I've a can of deicer in the winter that you can spray out the window while doing 70 on the M1 to defrost the screen on the go. :p

But I really miss the heated mirrors to clear them of water in weather like this weeks.

Wish this thread had been bumped half a day ago.

I just ordered replacements for mine cos when I measured the resistance at the connectors one was infinite, the other a couple of kilohms, not much heating potential there.

I assumed (cos I was too lazy and cold-fingered to explore) that they wouldn't be mendable...

...i thought .......my digital temp display connected to the intake through a little hole above the carb actually read -9.8 !

    HAHAHA must be b****cked

No chance of carb icing there then...

    anyhoo...

Just fitted em back on and oh yes they work lurvly.

Used a bit of mekkle instead of the little circle

    but

it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too warm tonight for any multimetering about, will go and sit in my nice cold living room and play GREEDINC.

    Oh, I see.

I thought maybe you misinterpreted my line "I just ordered replacements" as "I'm too rich to fiddle about". (Not the case!)

What I really meant was " I have just ordered replacements (after a struggle to justify the cost to myself) and wish I hadn't now that this thread leads me to believe I might have been able to fix them..."

As said somewhere on page 1, they come on with the ignition, all the time the engine's on, so a lickle tiny waste of power most of the time in the UK.

I measured the 12V feed as being OK last week, and even cleaned up the connectors inside the housings as they're not sealed in any way, and were quite corroded, but still no joy. Hence measuring the resistance looking for a 'heater-ish' value.
