i have a mk3 golf ABF with an ongoing heater problem, in that, its cold!

Have changed the thermostat fairly recently, but didnt solve the prob.

with the recent cold, weather i have gained a another problem with the water temp light flashing on me, but the temprature guage maintains 90. if i turn the ignition off then on again it stops flashing. i only have this problem with the recent cold weather, and having checked the water level, it was a bit low.

It seems that that there is a lot of air in the pipes especially in the water pipes that go into the bulk head to the matrix. The bottom pipe particularly is full of air and having spent half an hour pumping it to push the air out it doesnt seem to make a difference.

could this be my problem with the heater? is there a technique to rid the pipes of air better?

i have got flashes of hot air come through the heater from time to time so i live in hope the matrix isnt clogged!

    Cheers fro any help
