hi all. does anybody have any idea how to set the mixture and tick over on a 1.8 gti 8v 1988 i have nearly replaced every serviceable part, plugs, rota arm ,dizzy, filters, fuel pump etc but still ticks over very poor heeeeeelp
To adjust the idle you have a small brass hex screw on the back side of throttle body To adjust the mixture you need a long allen key 3mm I think If you look at the rubber boot on the metering head You have a small hole just in front of it Sometimes it's a small pipe with a plastic bung in it That's where the Allen key go's
Before you go fiddling with any mixture settings I'd check you don't have any vacuum leaks, it's the most common issue to affect the idle and general running
start here, but ignore the extra 16v bits just check the basic kjet stuff: http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?195423 with ignition timing this is done at idle with the vac line on the dizzy disconnected and plugged, it is 6deg BTDC just like how the 16v is though, and ignore the red/black coil wire disconnection bit as that only applies to 16v ISV control unit which obv you do not have. for pics of the 8v cam timing marks check out this thread, but obv ignore the setup procedures they only work for digifant GTI: http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?124949
spot on john some mk1 pictures i found by googling mixture adjustment hole idle screw stolen from here has all the mk1 pacific stuff thats not in johns guide http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/index.php?page=cedi&type=misc&id=27
