Please help. Just tried to start my Golf & the immobiliser is staying on, it's a Clifford Virtualkey2 the idea is that you press a fob against the steering column & the car starts, however this morning it's staying on. There are no batteries in the fob so that can't be the problem. Can an electronic device be affected by the cold (it's -8 degrees)? EDIT;It's just happened again & it's only -1 degrees
well i've no idea what caused this but I've had an electric fan heater running inside the car for 1/2 hour & the car started normally. Bizarre
I know nothing about electronic gizmos but logically i can't see how anything with no battery or moving parts can be effected by cold nevertheless that is what apperas to ahve happened.
We often test electronic circuit boards at work down to -40 or so, and they're usually fine at that. What can be problematic is condensation forming if unsealed electronics goes through the 'dew-point' and gets wet.
OK, this is weird, it's only minus 1 today but I didn't use the car yesterday & the same thing has happened. Fan heater back in car
If it's just a coil in there that induces a current I can't see how that would be affected It's not something like a reed switch I suppose, that possibly could be affected by the cold (???)
as above, might have condensation inside it. my cl packed up a while ago and when i opened the control unit I found it was all damp inside. dried it all out and problem solved
I have Clifford Virtualkey2 Get this problem also. My cure is to heat the fob sensing wire loop with a lighter.
Thanks Didn't think of using a lighter, hairdrier didn't work but a lighter is a damned sight quicker than a fan heater.
i had a virtual key in an xr2i years ago and it was random as f**k all the time take it out and have a different one fitted
