As the mk2 golf has no dash or anything, so all wires exposted i'm guessing a form of an alarm or immobilser is a waste of money since the box and wires are exposed as there's no way to hide them.

Apart from removing the ECU and using a wheel lock how else do people secure their weekend stripped out cars?

battery cut-off switch, plastic windows and remote deadlocks, visible wires won't be much use if they cant get in lol

You can always removed some fuses. This is what I used to do.
+ A steering wheel lock thingy.

Go with the immobiliser but cut into the loom from inside the engine bay.
Have the sensor for the fob up against the bulkhead.

battery isolator is a good idea. never thought about the imobiliser through through the engine bay. might have a look at those.

Hide a small switch in behind the fuseboard/junction box - use it to isolate something critical (fuelpump) or if you feel really evil, have it earth the horn as well, so when the ignition comes on - so does the horn.. A ton more effective than a car alarm that folks are mostly going to ignore.

Found this old article regarding wheel locks:

    http://www.ovat.be/Artikels/Steering%20Locks%20test%20by%20AutoExpress.pdf

I've got the stoplok pro which lasted 47 secs which was the 3rd best. I've decided to keep the ECU removed at all times when the car is parked up (so i'll pop it in my man bag) but also just purchased a battery isolator that sits ontop of the battery so I just have to remove the black plastic knob so there's no power source whatsoever.

Stoplock is more of a deterrent but no ECU and no power supply = car going no where

I am keeping an eye out for a snap off kit but i think no ECU and no power supply is enough to keep the car grounded.

if the thing has no steering wheel - it will put off the opportunist thief... the ECU idea will stop the people that have planned it..... either way, smashed windows all the time for them to realise it has no ECU will get annoying?

I don't live in the Bronx  I can live with a smashed window in the case an 'event' happened.

Had a look at snap off kits but they seem hard to get hold off so need to e-mail demon tweeks
