here was me thinking i put that smiley face at the end because it was a joke, maybe i forgot to put it there or people cant take it as the joke it was.I'm not one of these anti Mk3 people, infact, it was a Mk3 16v that was the first dub i drove and absolutely fell in love with it.Id happily take a Mk3 16v, seeing a nice Mk3 makes me smile the same way that a Mk2 does, when in actual fact out of all of them its the Mk1 i really really want.My boss has got a T25, his brother has a Mk4, my mates got a 6n2 polo TDi, so I AM one of these people that loves VW's, but I also have a soft spot for Jap cars, which i have always had up until now, but I still **** both my mates with their EK9's because its a rice bowl!

The comment was just meant to poke a bit of fun, and sorry if it caused offence [8(]

i dont like his car either (although i quite like matt paint, in general), but i refuse get on my high horse and slate it just because it doesnt suit my tastes. some of you really need to get over this obsession you have with this guy. in the end its those who continue to whine on about him that look like the real idiots.

How am I on my "high horse"?I see a car in the street that looks daft, I laugh at it, I see a car on the internet that looks daft, I laugh at it.People take the **** out of that orange Mk2 that was always on eBay, ****, when the fiat multipla came out people laughed at it n slagged it all day long, they still do in the world ugliest car contests.Just because people spend time and money on a car doesn't make them immune to comments people make about their cars.Every show you goto, there is people passing comment on cars there, "oh that body kit is a mess", "those wheels look crap", are people not allowed to say these things anymore just because someone else might think it looks good?
I'm quite sure more than a few of us have seen pics of people that probably came from www.uglypeople.com, and i'm also quite sure that a few of us have burst out laughing at some of the sights, but are we not allowed to do that if someone else thinks they are attractive?
People get judged and comments made about them by things they do, what they wear, what they say everyday of life, its part of life. And if someone wishes to post up pics of their car on the net, then they must be aware that some people will love or hate it.
I bought an Oak Green 5 door Mk2, OMG, how could I?! 5 doors are this, 5 doors aren't as good as 3 doors etc., and then theres the jumping on the Oak Green wagon.I dont care what people think about me, or my car, but they are more than welcome to make comments about my car when i post pics online. And they have done.

You mention your from a jap background, I am also from a jap background, and my other car I own has had thousands spent on it. its is 1990 swift gti which I got in 1994, first car I ever got and even learnt to drive in and also passed my test in it haha, it has a 160 bhp engine, takes the **** out of VR6 engined mk 2 golf's etc, has colour change paint and is very in your face, totally the opposite to my daily mk 3 gti and would be absolutely hated on here, but its how I think jap cars need to be and its all been done to a very high standard by a guy that actually is a VW specialist, he has had alot of his work featured in magazines etc (Dave from B AUTOS in Leeds if anyone knows of him), but with Golf’s I think less is more type thing, at the end of the day I can pay respect to a well done job even if its not to my taste but if something is very poorly done then I will be the first to say so..
basically in a nut shell, i have no problem with you stating your opinion on the car in question as it is very poor but your reference to mk 3's was a **** take no matter what you say, that was the only issue I had with you matey and nothing more, as said before saying things like you did makes you look like one of those sheep regardless of if you are or not

kells: I totally agree with you on the "a simple job done well is far better than a fancy job done poorly", and as far as Swift Gti's go, really cool cars, my neighbour used to have one on a Justy 4x4 chassis, everything else was standard swift gti, but with 4x4, very cool car.

And I know what I said makes me look like another one of the Mk2 elitist crew, but as I said earlier, I'm far from it, and was meant as a joke, but it ****ed you off, and for that, sorry mate[:[]

dont take offense at anything said on here, 99% of the banter on here is exctly just that, banter. This place is not like most forums, the vast majority of people on here have a sarcastic sense of humour and just say things for ****s and giggles and should not be taken too seriously.
People on here are car fans first and foremost and vw fans second i reckon, you can post up a pic of a nova if you wanted and so long as its well spec'd im sure youd get many admiring people intersted.

haha cool, i dont really care tbh, its just the " if its not a mk 2" thing that seems to be the case in the dub scene, i have had a mk 2 and now have a mk 3, we also have a mk 4, i like them all, and i think its best not to post a pic of my swift gti, bit too wild i guess, although it does have genuine audi door handles welded in and a genuine transporter vent in the wing :)

yep I agree with that, most of the forum regulars are more general car lovers who have very good taste so drive a dub:p Its also quite a technical forum and as more work gets done to mk1s and mk2s I guess thats why they are more popular on here, plenty of good spec mk3s appearing though.

I know about the old mk2 is best argument but lets face it outta the 3 the mk1 needs bracing to handle, the mk2 handles outta the box and the mk3 needs stiffening.

So So So Random and can be Interpreted in soo many ways

Matt black is ok, personally i like paint work to shine the mulberry matt using cans is a brave thing to do, its really a hit or miss ! Also the issue of inside the doors and boot and bonnet/engine bay. It will just look wrong ! But maybe ill see it at E38 and love it. As for Killiegti golf see it in the flesh and it looks interesting, very much the rat look.....Not what I would do, but it different and different can be good !

    Oh and I love mk1, 2, 3 and 5 Golfs, not keen on mk4 unless V6 4Motion or R32, actually the mk4 R32 is my fav car !

I agree with comments usually made hating mk3's, hating 5 doors (with ine is both) just being a waste of time......Then stupid argument which i always get sucked into the 16v vs VR6.

Why cant we all just agree, mk3's are the best, 16v are the better option over the VR6's and with a 5 door you get more car for your money !

    ;)
