Depends on your insurer really. In many cases it probably would be considered a write-off, yes.

Suggest your mum gets a bike...

Depends on the insurer really, if you are with a specialist you are more than likely to get full whack

Best thing to do would be to get as many adverts for similar condition cars as evidence of their worth

i'd expect them to write it off....in their eyes the cars prob not even worth 1k, and with vw parts it will cost prob up towards that at a bodyshop.

If you can buy it back you could always get patern rear panel put on and painted by a friendly bodyshop, then source a second hand bumper.

I'd have been VERY close to lamping my mum if she did something as dumb as that! Family or not!

At the very least if you go through the insurance, her premium will go up due to her not paying attention.

Has the boot floor rippled at all? If it has, pretty much guarenteed writeoff.

I'd get a hammer and a plank on the job.

It would be written off for sure, I cant se the point in claiming on your mums insurance.

unless your mum had protected no claims (assuming she has any with that sort of driving lol)
then her premiums over 5 years (ie until she builds up her no claims again) with be probably more than 1000 extra (200 a year discount on her premium for no claims) so convince her to pay for it to be fixed would be beneficial to you both. Then it isn't logged as a write off which will effect selling a car like that in some way
