I've seen various post about a dirty ISV causing hunting at idle on *v GTI's , well mine is doing this . I want to clean the ISV and I have no trouble removing it from the car .

However I don't want to damage it so what is the correct way to clean it and where can I get Carb cleaner from ..

    Thanks
    Stuart

You can clean it by leaving it connected to the electrics but removing it from the hose and submerging it in petrol. Use a jam jar or shallow tupperware for this. Then turn the ignition on so current is going through the isv (buzzing) and leave for a good 2hrs.

Then shake all the black crud out and maybe squirt the carb cleaner (any car shop sell it) to get the last cack out.

Just turn the ignition on and leave it for 1 or 2 hours.

Think it was Rubjonny that said carb cleaner was to harsh/damaging for cleaning ISV's.
