hi guys, recently went and saved my mk2 jetta from being crushed as it was on the road with no tax. moved it to a safe place and now need to decide what to do with it... could always do with another daily driver or track car. we are still trying to figure out what the hell they have done to it! what is the engine?? the carb is VERY responsive, 1/3rd quicker throttle responce than my digi. i.e revving from idle to 5k rpm. we think it may be a clipper engine? 1.8 carb? EZ? possibly 1.6 but couldnt get round the back of the block to look. the engine has been changed at some point... not sure on the loom look at the fusebox! as you can see there are two main places of rust, the fuel filler cap and rear drivers side wheel arch which arn't really a problem i think. i need to have a good poke underneath the sills, but the boot area was solid. the battery tray looks like it needs replacing, are these expensive or just a ******* to get out and weld a new one in? the front lower panel? has been cut!! yes cut, see pics. why would someone do that? think they are cheapo too? 13 from gsf? anyone know? rear one has been cut too!! so will need good repair if want small bumpers on it/1 needs new cv boot, got one spare already, just hate fitting them! rear quarterlight window been smashed 10? needs service if i can find what engine it is! should the airbox have a box on the end or what?? got a spare k&n i could throw on there? it will new a full respray can this be done cheap- my mate reckons just paint/ consumables will be 250? we might go rat style if its cheaper...matt black etc. thinking about stripping it out and basically making it lots lighter...but is it worth it? good bits. Gmax Va front and rear suspension, took them off but they can go back on 15" spokes, same as above, smoothed boot & rear doors with solenoids. audi front door handles. m3 indicator w'mirrors. rage exhaust, lovely gearchange, super responsive. there is no time limit on this project so can do bits on the cheap as they come. what do you think? mk3 dipstick?
it's nothing special and in a sorry state I think paul speaks the truth maybe you could sell the solenoid setup as a complete kit on ebay and make a little money back
that fella in the picture dont look too impressed its there. if you aint gonna use it or do it up then id get rid, if youd keep it, it would take years to do up, maybe take some parts off for yourself to sell and keep as spare. whats up with that wirin? then you can spend more time with the golf and not worry about givin that fella a heart attack with the stress cos its been there un moved for 3 years.
I would quite like a nice Jetta .. got nothing against them that one looks like it was pulled out of a river however
If you want to put the effort in then go for it. Personally I wouldn't, better jetta's to be had for hardly any money.
all the above i agree with tbh you can get nice clean jettas for alot less than you would spend on trying to fix this one imo
Nice that you want to make the effort to sort it. However it looks like 10 other people drove it through bodge city before you got hold of it.
infact, put a massive MDF body kit on it, a massive big gay wing, make it look like a spaceship then put it on ebay, and advertise it on some chavtastic forums! its halfway there as it is!
Personally dont think its worth the bother, sell what you can and weigh the rest in, its never really going to be worth much without spending out thousands to make it look like a jetta again
how long was it outside your mates house, and in that time what did you to it?? if it wasn't much then scrap it - it now parked up on probably a moist lawn!! looks like the rust has just been sprayed over (ie bodge city ref). there is someone on here whos manage to pull it off, ie get a cheapo jetta and rebuild it on the cheap, to a respectable car (see below). but i bet he showed loads commitment and looks like a big job, and his car looks pretty solid and in one piece from the start!!! i bet you can pick up a more solid car at a cheap price which may be the better option - will save you loadsa time on bodywork http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=126759&highlight=nurburgring
