In my Scirocco. Stopped at a roundabout, and a fiesta drove up my ass bending the bumper into the panel badly. Swapped details etc and went to see an independent VW guy who has quoted me about 500 to repair. Now, I fear the insurance company (its on a classic policy) will write it off. I havent spoken to the other guy but I cant see him paying cash to that amount so do I A) chance the insurance sorting it. B) Strip out the R32 interior, BK Wheels and the G60 charger (can it run without charger?) or c) I dont have a c. The bits can be put back in if they decide to fix it or if I can buy it back but my mind is going crazy thinking of what could happen etc. Worst thing is, cars for sale right now http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=408520 So it couldnt come at a worse time. Any thoughts anyone?
Just pay for the damage yourself if it's only 500. Insurance is useless these days. Edit: depends on what the other chappy wants to do as well.
If they write it off you can buy it back anywho so I wouldn't bother stripping it out. Hopefully it should be ok. Mine was cat c'd for 200.00 worth of damage though
his excess is probably about 250-300 so see whether he wants to pay for it first. Then if he says he's going to go through insurance ask him to pay you what his excess would be and just put in the rest
I got bumped up the rear in my old MK2 Golf, the guys insurance was happy to pay out (tesco), it was about 550 IIRC, also I think you can insist that your car is repaired if the crash was not you fault, I could be wrong though. Slightly off topic here, but I think(?) I've been reading a feature about your car in an old VW mag that I dug out recently.
Sorry to disapoint you but the other driver won't have to pay an excess on a 3rd party claim. Excesses are only payable on the policyholder's damage claims. As others have said the insurers often make two offers, one lower offer & you keep the car & higher one & they scrap it.
He is going to pay cash for repair (about 600) so Ive got a quote from where I want it done and 2 others. Is that the one in Buxton/countryside? Id love a copy of that mag but dont know the date of the mag.
I was actually going to suggest such dishonesty myself Theres nowt wrong with a little 'compensation' for all the grief and aggro
Is that the one in Buxton/countryside? Id love a copy of that mag but dont know the date of the mag.
Thats the one, it's in "The Golf" and it's December 2003.
Thats the one, it's in "The Golf" and it's December 2003.
Cool...Ill try and find one on ebay. It didnt have R32/konig interior then though.
I have that copy as well, it's just new Konig front seats direct from germany(as supplied to VW for the R32) & rest trimmed to match if i recall correctly - not second hand! you wouldn't know anything about a slammed jetta single round lights- possibly burgandy ish, on phase 2 ??? walked past it earlier
[Christmas spirit on/] If you PM me your address i'll post my copy to you next time i'm at the post office. [/Christmas spirit off]
