Hi, in my Mk1 track **** I am running a 9a with KE Motroninc, from cold the engine fires immediately and runs perfectly, once you have run it for a couple of minutes plus on shutting down the engine spins over fine but will not fire, you can bump it and it flashes up immediately and runs fine. I have replaced the temp sensor on the side of the head, unplugged the metering head/fifth injector and plugged back in etc to no avail.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Corin.

Failing fuel system pressure regulator / fuel pump check valve perhaps ?

What happens if you prime the fuel system two or three times before starting when hot? Does the pump noise change as it pressurises the line to the metering head and does the car start easily then?

Pump noise changes, still fails to start.

So the pump slows as it represurises the system? If you crank it over a few times then pull a spark plug out, is it wet/does the cylinder smell of fuel?

You said it doesn't make any difference if you unplug the dpr (2 wire plug) and the airflow potentiometer (3 wire plug) when hot and trying to start it? Even when it's in basic K-Jet mode it still can't start when hot?

Morning, O.K. just tried this, started first time ran sweetly, got it warm then tried to restart - just spins over, unplugged fifth injector and metering head - still the same.
    Removed spark plug, pretty dry.
    Fuel pump priming as normal.

As Andrew said sounds like the non return valve on the pump has gone
This is common with mk1's dew to the filler neck rotting

Your best bet would be to get the system pressure checked and do a decay test to see if the system is holding pressure once it's turned off

It's also worth looking in side the tank for rust from the filler

By the fuel return valve do you mean the accumulator?

no in the end of the fuel pump itself where the fuel line fits is a non-return valve, you can unscrew it to replace. if your pump is a bosch mk2 kjet ones will fit if you happen to have any lying about

me too, but opposite to what you would expect, decided it wouldn't let any fuel thru randomly one day! couldnt see owt wrong with it ball bearing inside moved fine. eventually in desperation tried one out of a spare 16v mk2 pump i had on the shelf and problem solved, muchos odderos

i had to clean the tank out
got most of the rust out with a magnet then sucked the rest out with the intank filter pulled out
put a filter in line before you do it or you'll f#ck the pump dich any fuel you pump thruogh

do you have or know anyone with k jet pressure gauges to test it
cant rember if KE-Motronic has a pressure control valve inside the metering head or pressure regulator on the out side think it is the latter

if you run it till it warms up then leave it for 5 minutes then crack open one of the fuel pipes dose it still have pressure ?

Do you have any of the diagnostic wiring intact still? The ecu diagnostics are fairly basic but might be possible to get something out of it of use.
What's bugging me is you say it bump starts fine when hot. If it was just low fuel pressure I'd have thought it would splutter and stumble being bumped? Maybe someone else can correct me though?

try unplugging the lambda probe next, see if that helps
