not out of choice i msy have to put a sourced kr head onto my abf block, is this entirely compatible and will i also see any differences in performance/mpg?
kr head-not really mate chipping make it better-not if it's mapped ok now go for a ported head ideally, there seems to be 1 bloke that does them and stealth tsr etc sell them on
I heard the kr head has better inlet ports and the 9a has better exhaust? I want to try a kr on a 9a bottom myself. It would be good to see the graphs if you had it done
im getting a kr head onto my abf block so as soon as ive had her RR'd ill have the results posted. hopefully sometime this month, at least itll tell me if im better off with the kr or whether i need to port and chip it to get some sort of improvement out of her. maybe ill just get it done anyway!!
is this cos the ABF one is damaged? if you run it at stealth, send me the file and i'll plot it against a stock ABF
The head was "worked" on by an ex vw engineer that managed to leave the inlets looking like bubble wrap (no joke) the cams wouldnt turn over either after he fitted them (unless bearings were all slackened), long story but ive decided to bypass worrying about the head and put a new one on. I think ill keep the original head and see if someone can flow it properly though i dont know how much has already been taken out, it might be worth building as a track car head. im here in belfast so stealth isnt really an option, place called triple7 about 50 miles from here they do emerald, dastek, motec etc i plan on getting the head ported when im happy that the engine has run a couple thou miles without problems. Another question, which of the above would be best for remapping assuming i ge her chipped then get head work done?
i should be able to get the file onto a fdd, hes a decent bloke and very approachable. In fact i think he still has my last rr results saved onto the pc connected to the rr. Edited by: cordobabrendy
Well the kr is on now and after a small overfill on the oil shes running noticeably better than the abf head ever did, after getting the "worked on" head off i thought i'd post a couple pics of what had been done. first up, notice how bad the surface is. second, the fella that fitted the kr head touched up a little sbit of the surface to show me the texture it should have been like, and last but not least this is how it should have been done, thanks to flapper aka Daz from seatcupra.net for this photo. flow job is definately next in the list!!
www.awfulheadwork.com seriously though i cant say as up until i found this out he was a decent enough fella.
the bottom pic is a well flowed port, the top pics are ports which were too rough and ragged to help airflow. its worse in the flesh, the photos dont do it justice. Edited by: cordobabrendy
