Well, this is Lara, my baby. Bought in May 2013, me and my dad spent a year restoring it. It had been off the road for 7 years before we got it, and wasn't in great shape. 117k miles, full service history up until it was taken off the road... 580 lighter, it was mine! I called it Lara, after Lara Croft, my childhood hero. I knew this car was a fighter! So the stripdown started... The rust and rot was found... And subsequently removed, welded, primed and painted. Along with the hidden surprise that was found underneath the floor, which was brazed, sealed, primed and painted... There was more around the floor in various places but it's all taken care of now. Sound as a pound! Under the arches were done front and back... Along with new brake disks, pads and a general clean up of all underneath. Bushings, wishbones, tie rod ends and a general all round service was done too. Seats had the usual bolster wear, so my da fixed them from two other seats we got... So as it was nearing completion I gave it a few of my own touches... As someone who grew up totally in love with Ashes to Ashes, I'd always wanted a quattro so I gave it a few quattro touches... Such as the VW/Audi door stickers and the quattro font Golf GTI on the windows and dash. I also put on some moon equip stuff because, well, I'm a secret 60s hot rodder at heart! On our family trip to Germany we went to Wolfsburg and I treated it to some window stickers like you get on the vehicles at their museum: "Please do not stroke." So this was the car pretty much finished... So it passed it's first MOT in 7 years, and we got it to some shows... Me, my best friend, and an ex, at the Air Cooled Drag Day at which I raced the Golf, won two out of four races, beat a 16V and a Scirroco, I was pretty proud So yeah, that's my baby! A very quick and brief overview of the project. Now I just need the money to respray it.. Thanks for reading, all comments are much appreciated - Tomo
