    Can anyone help me.

After the battery went flat (twice) in my 91 GTI 8V, the rev
counter and trip computer aren't working.
The rev counter doesn't move, and the computer reads 8888
and can't be reset with the switch.

    Any advice appreciated.

Take the fuse out or take the single plug out.

If these don't work take the fuse out overnight.

I think Phil means the single plug on the back on the instrument cluster.

Either way it cuts the power to the instrument cluster and lets the internal capacitor run out of power. It should reset the computer.

I've managed to resolve both issues by disconnecting the
    battery for 10 minutes.

    Cheers for your help guys.
