since you have tested the pins on the plugs and they come back OK I would say the FCM seems to be the problem, but do the terminals look nice and clean on the plug and the fcm? might just need a little buff up

Rubjonny, they're all clean, shiny silver clean. No dirt on them at all. Even the FCM looks clean, judging by the state of the bolts that were holding it in - nearly rusted to the point that I couldn't get the socket to grip.

I have an FCM arriving tomorrow...
Might this also assist in the AC working again?

fingers crossed yeah might fix that too at the same time. my thoughts are the box isnt seeing ignition live to the circuits inside hence why nothing works including the fast speed :)

rubjonny - the new controller doesn't help. Checked the OBD on the climatronic, and it comes up with no faults in the AC system - shows the pressure in the ac to be 43bar. Same story with jumping pin 2 to pin 3 on the temp sender block - doesn't run the fan up to high speed, however, low speed works when jumping pin 1 to 2. So its exactly the same as with the old unit.

Also, could you make sense of this - would it give any clue as to what might be happening?

nothing in that scan that would affect the fan control, may want to log into the radio and convenience module to clear those codes and see what comes back. might be old issues that have been fixed or might be some other gremlins lurking...

jumping slow speed on the fan switch works becasue the slow speed wire is connected directly to the fans, so it'll work even if the FCM is unplugged. Cant understand why it wont work if all the pins are clean and tight, the ignition, live and earths are all there?

however not that I'm an expert on the a/c systems, but looking at elsa it suggests the system should switch off if the pressure exceeds 32bar? so it may be your pressure switch has failed and thats the cause for the a/c not working? Not sure why it would affect the fast speed, but possibly the climatronic unit is stopping it somehow. It does have a connection to the dash clocks for coolant temp so maybe thats why...

The door faults and radio codes are recurrent...been there since I've had the car, reset them multiple times...

    Going to check fuse 5..

OK, fuse 5 is OK. Checked the pressure in the system by trying to vent a little - seems there is 0 gas in the system at all!

right i guess the sensor failsafe at max pressure when system is empty. will explain for why no a/c at least

Man this is driving me mad. Aircon has been re-gassed. Pressure sensor is still showing 43 bar - when I unplug the sensor, it ALSO shows 43 bar.

Fans still aren't working, AC still isn't working.... at least the regas didn't cost anything!

Just ran 12v through the compressor - turns on, runs etc. Air is cold through the vents.

So what would be making the climatronic think that there is 42bar in the system, wether the pressure sensor is plugged in or not!

that would suggest to me either the switch is broken, or a wiring fault. do you see ignition live across the blue/black and brown wires?

Rubjonny - we have it working!!

Was looking at it all again, testing wires etc. One that bothered me was the 4 pin connector on the FCM, leading to the fans. One of the pins had no continuity/power.

Pulled out the battery, swore at the wires, then pulled apart all the sticky tape and cable covers - 1 wire was burnt through - it looks like battery acid somehow got in to the wire housing and there was a massive piece missing. Replaced the burnt out piece, everything is working 100%!!

Have to say, thanks for all your help on this. To anyone else having issues - check your wires 100% - this wire was hidden under the battery tray, tied in with a whole lot of others. Had to dig to get to it.
Next think to tackle - door locks/control modules....

nice one, bit of a random one as well for acid damage just on the one wire!

the ccm one looks to be wirign issue as well on the can-bus wiring, that might be qa fun one to track down... start in the rubber boots to the doors anyway most likely place for issues
