who's driven one? or been in one? seriously thinking of selling both cars and getting 1 car for me and the girlfreind as were saving for a house. she likes beetles but there a bit gay for me, i love the lupo's but there quite hard to find my local dealer didnt have 1 lupo never mind a gti. do they still make them new? what do they drive like, and are they as quick as say the mk2 16v? more important are they fun to drive.
You can still get them unregistered. They are a very uncommon car on the roads, i never seen any apart from when im at shows. I love them, if i wasnt paying some debts off when selling the Rallye, id be getting one next.
Never driven the Lupo GTI but bought a Lupo 1.4 16v (100bhp) last week for my g/f and I'm really impressed with it. From the couple of times I've driven it I would say it's on a par with a Mk2 GTI 8v (maybe even 16v) for acceleration at low revs anyway, certainly feels rather quick and torquey so I assume the Lupo GTI is rapid. Handling is good too on 16v although I've seen people say it's too soft, not driven it far enough to say yet. As an everyday small car it seems great, my g/f is made up with it. Tiny boot though! sounds good then. evry review ive read about them say there excellent cars, really good fun quick and they look great. so why did they not sell well compared to other similar cars like saxo vtr's and mini coopers? it cant be just that they had small boots can it? i suppose the polo gti is slightly more practical but it didnt come with lightweight alloy panels and a six speed box. wonder what the price difference is though.
No where near as fast as Mk2 16v, not in a straight line anyway. At the recent Gti Festival there were a few going up the strip, a standard one was doing low 17s and another was doing high 16s, although this at least had a different exhaust. A standard 16v Mk2 should at least do a low 16, although good ones can get nearer mid 15s. Not sure how it would compare down some twisty B roads though, I would have thought it would give a standard 16v a run for it money. Nice cars though, would definately consider one if I was after a quick super mini/hot hatch.
My girlfriend has an 02 Lupo GTI. Its a lovely car to drive. Bags of torque from that little engine (150Ib/ft if i'm correct), handles well, and looks the testicles. We've just put an induction kit on, and coilovers, and my god it sounds gorgeous. Then all we need are some porsche adapters and these will be going on: Than the german plates are on it, and i reckon it'll look sweet!
Ive had 2 lupo gti's, they are excellent, put some coilovers on and some wide rims and youve got a nice little quick car, my last one had some 7 and 8x14s on it.rrrrrrrrrrr. obviously not stupid quick, but very much fun, and look great, ohhh, by the way, ive driven a few mk2 16v's and i can honestly say the loop is quicker (slightly) hope to get another soon, taz Edited by: Tarnbir
My mates got a lupo gti, standard apart from a magnex ( i think) back box. Boy oh boy its rapid. ive seen 140 on the clocks (whatever that realy is) and they stick to the road like poo on a blanket. well recomended
Test drove a 5 speed one in a dealer before I bought my old Golf 1.8T, a lot of fun to drive, but decided to get something bigger, as I already had a G40 for a fun car, wish I had bought the Lupo instead as I was bored of the golf in less than a year Alan
Were they standard though. I spoke to the bloke with the standard one running low 17s, and although he hadn't had it long and it was his first time down the strip, he was trying his hardest.
