May also have used an ABF bottom end at some stage, I recall from a PM many moons ago.

i wouldn't be rebuilding it with a eurospec crank. don't have the best track record, especially on the 1.8t. vortex forum is littered with non believers.

FSi 2.0 forged unit is the way forward.

The block was changed as i found a crack in the back of it one day where the rear lower gearbox bolt fits to the block, My brother had the same problem with a 2L 8v he had built.
Also heard of it on another engine as well but still a strange problem.

If you PM Boff he will give you a better spec of all the bits, he always knew more about the engine than I did.

Good luck with it, not a cheap option but does work well in a MkI

How much would a 2.0l Fsi crank be from VAG? Are the rod lengths different from 1.8t (144mm?) and 2.0 Fsi?

Its nothing personal, I almost bought a stroker kit from them myself, but in my nomadic cyber travels I found a lot of people running the eurospec cranks and cams with the same problem.
Cam gears come off, cranks are either bent or out of tolerance.

They don't actually make anything, they do a lot of modifying of OEM stuff and other brands then rebrand it. Thats fine and I am sure there are lots of happy customers.
Same reason I would buy a fidanza flywheel or Spec clutch. sure they are great for some but far too many people reporting the same problems.

You can get a 2.0FSi from the US for good money, if you really want it knifeedged find a decent engineer who makes a living out of engine engineering. Mine does nothing but and told me that the stress relief from a proper knife edge job will almost always leave it out of tolerance and require a regrind and oversized bearings.
Eurospec knife edged cranks are all stock main bearing diameter. made me think about it.

has just rebuilt his 20VT MK1 Rocco now to 2.1L with a Bildon Crank i think and 83mm Mahl pistons.

will get a full spec, the block was originally a AEG Block.

It's an alloy block, not sure what from - A4 / Passat IIRC - fairly standard-ish, with cams possibly, possibly a P&P and that's about it.

Simple 200 brake. Tbh, if it really is that standard, I'd consider doing one.

Has it got 288 CAT Cams in it, i'm sure someone mentioned that at Cadwell last year.

went very well at Cadwell on the day and sounded outstanding.
