About time I put a build thread up, its come quite a long way so it might take a while to get this up to speed, might be some confusing present/past tense from posts of the past.

Once upon a time in early 2011...

I picked this up, Mars Red '83 GTI non-sunroof, pretty good nick with the original 1.8 8v in.

Been quite busy with this recently, stripped all the suspension and brakes off the car, had the full polybush kit i had fitted, then i went on a clean and paint mission.

    lovely green anti corrosive primer:

Now ive got to crack on with the rear beam and ARBs, and get it all fitted back together with my coilovers :)

Abit of progress, completely stripped the rear axle, polybushed all round, all hammerited up, new stainless outer arb clamps* and all new brake lines :)

First pic has middle arb polybushes in already as i was going to leave the outers alone, then i found replacement clamps so manned up and got the grinder out!

Soo I started stripping the KR that will be going in, all going smoothly except the obligatory knackered exhaust manifold nuts..

Slapped abit of paint on the rocker cover, completely different shade to what i expected (cap showed a darker grey) but carried on anyways, finish isnt too bad to say I did naff all prep and sprayed it all on in about 30mins, but im going to take more time with the inlet as its more in view.

Not sure now whether to get the paint off the ribs (the original plan) or leave it as it is, kinda like the look of it now its painted.

How the engines sitting, pretty much complete now apart from manifolds (inlet in the background), i also got the 8v box and flywheel off the original engine to be put on before it goes in

Finished the inlet manifold, shiny grey with mars red lettering [:D]

might revisit the metal face at some point in the future as it abit uneven but not a priority to sort at the moment

Picked up a set of G60 brakes with the conversion brackets and some spacers thrown in. Discs have abit of surface rust but are pretty much brand new, new set of pads included :)

Then all was going well, until the bottom end started knocking [8(]

Stripped the engine and found the following:

Split the engine to sell, check the classifieds... ;);) lol

And bought myself an ABF with 63k on it, so the new plan is to give it a service (belts etc) then get it in keeping the kjet fuelling system
