yea the thought of catching a big fish, ripping the roof of it's mouth out and putting it back in the water does it for me.......................................................... ..........................................NOT.

    sorry just my opinion!!

I have to disagree with you there, but then you probably expected that anyway ;)

For starters, fishing is regarded as a sport, which is enjoyed by many. It's not a blood sport - people don't eat their catch - (At least they don't in carp fishing anyway) The fish are put under minimum stress when they're caught, returning them back to the water as quickly as I can, with the exception of a photograph if it's a half decent size.

Secondly, you'd only rip the roof off of it's mouth if you pinned it down and used a scalpel. The hook holds in most cases stay in one place, not causing any tear or damage. The only time a tear in the mouth would occur is if the angler is using too much pressure, which is a common mistake made by novices.

We also put money back into the environment by means of a rod licence, and ticket prices, so it's not like we don't care.

Fishing is a part of me and what I love doing, and I see it as an enjoyable hobby - not like fox hunting or rooster fights for example. I'm sure many will agree and disagree with what I've written above, but it's a topic that's always been under debate.

I used to take my dad fishing after he gave up driving. He used to fish and I'd sit and read or take photographs and stuff and help him land the fish when he caught a big one. He was 81 and still fishing up to a fortnight before he died.

It's a lovely peaceful sport and helps get rid of stress, I found.

Although one carp did upset me cos the hook was in its eye! Dad took it out very gently and it swam away, but I found it very upsetting.

i have two fish tanks, and i enjoy fishing with my mini-rod.

Except i then fry my goldfish, and apply liberal dosings of tartare sauce [:^:]

Well I have 5 fish tanks and a pond so for me, fishies are best left in the water but I used to go fishing with my dad and my best friend when I was young and I can understand the argument for fishing. It is peaceful and relaxing. This is my groovy fish...[IMG]
