    Hi

I am wondering if it is possible to transplant the gears from a golf mk1 gearbox into a golf mk2 gearbox or is it possible/easier just to fit the mk1 gearbox directly into a golf mk2?

The reason for why I am making this question is because i might be able to buy a golf mk1 gearbox code “FD”

    Kind regards

    Hi

All the gears from the mk1 gearbox code “FD” into a mk2 gearbox code “4T”

So the plan will be to strip the mk2 gearbox completely and then transplant the gears from the mk1 gearbox into the mk2 gearbox

first and second gears are machined into the input shaft, so you have to use FD input shaft too.
output shaft and crown wheel are matching pair, so you have to use 4T case, diff and output shaft.
3,4 and 5th gears are interchangeable.
